“We’re all just children reaching for our dreams”

At times we get stuck in a rut where things seem to go nowhere. It’s just day in and day out. The same old. Maybe we don’t feel ready for something different or we get trapped in a corner and keep to ourselves. It’s something I experience from time to time but lately I’ve found a way to rejuvinate and recharge. Increase productivity.

It starts with observation because without an assessment, you can’t find a solution.

I did that with the snapshot method. Once you see where the shortfalls or holes are in your life/productivity, you can make a plan. My girlfriend kind of got that realization recently which prompted me to write more about this. “I really want to do things,” she said. “Experience life, travel, write a book about me, go help people, write music, be successful in the Christian music industry, etcetera.” She knows she has dreams and goals and that’s great. I was listening to some Disney park music this morning (and all the time), and the lyrics really holds true. We all have dreams and potential inside each of us and simply need to imagine and hope and our dreams can come true. This is not without work though. By observing our situation and seeing what we need to improve or change, we can make things much better. That’s one thing that hasn’t changed at Disney, the philosophy of dreams, imagination, and pixie dust making anything possible. I miss the times working there. My friends who worked there and had to leave agreed that when they got home things were just different. No magic. I loved being constantly surrounded with the never ending Disney philosophy: If you can dream it, you can do it. Sometimes I need to remind myself that no matter where I am I can still feel that way.

Dream it, do it
As mentioned above, dreaming results from what you do to make your dreams come true. Dreams can even be goals.

  1. Observe
  2. What’s preventing you from reaching your dreams/goals?
  3. How can you change what’s blocking you, or can you adapt your situation?
  4. Act on it

I’m trying to live this every day and make conscious efforts. Sometimes I look at others and wish others could feel this way. “All you need is right inside… Just believe and your dreams will come true.” We all have the ability to make a positive change in our life no matter how small it is. It takes small steps to make adjustments.

Life Snapshot
Let me review the progress of my life snapshot. I haven’t made it to fulfilling every single change I wanted to implement and that’s okay.

  1. Spend more time with family: YES! I’ve made an effort to spend some time with them after dinner and I think it’s appreciated and I will continue to give them time despite other things I may have to get done.
  2. Emailing people I haven’t spoken to in a while: It’s become another item on my list. I’m going to do it today.
  3. More time for TiVo: YES! Organizing my time has helped and in the evening I have watched a bit of TV.
  4. Go to bed earlier: I have made an effort to get ready for bed earlier which gives me nice quality time to read or blog. Wake up earlier? Nehh, 5:45 is early enough for me so no change for the moment.
  5. More cooking: YES! Going to prepare a quick lunch for myself tomorrow.
  6. Keeping track of my goals: No. I’ve seen that I’ve improved though. My todo list has more checks on it which is good though.

Small changes have improved the overall. So, those that can see their situation and find a small way to escape monotony and live for the enjoyment of working toward something can too, have a realization like my girlfriend. The journey toward a dream or goal can be the most fun. It creates anticipation, pride, and joy.

  • This looks great. I can see you’ve made some great progress here. How would you boil this down into tips other people could use to replicate your success?
